TABBA Kidney Institute (previously known as Aziz Tabba Dialysis Centre) was started as a dialysis centre in 1995. Today it enjoys the distinction of being a private sector-enterprise, dependant entirely on the generosity of Tabba family at large, pro- viding renal treatment of all kinds under one roof, without any distinction of cast, colour, creed or financial status, with the help of state-of-the-art technology and modern expertise.
The nephrology service at the institute started with four station dialysis units in 1995 and since then nephrology service has grown exponentially. At present, the service is run by full time nephrologists. It is supported by registrars and resident medical officers. The fully established state-of- the-art Hemodialysis department has been operating since July 1995. The department is equipped with 36 dialysis stations running four shifts a day. It has dedicated machines for hepatitis C reactive, hepatitis B reactive and for negative patients. It has more than 250 registered patients. Outpatient services provide consultation where a nephrologist is available seven days a week. The department is backed by state-of-the-art ICU, fully equipped with latest monitoring system, along with ventilators to support both surgical and medical patients.
The in-patient Nephrology services include a 26 bed general ward in addition to private rooms. Recently a state-of-the-art high-flux dialysis unit is established with six stations; where every patient is provided a separate cubical to provide privacy. On the vision of our CEO, to convert this institute into postgraduate nephrology training programme. A comprehensive postgraduate training programme is formulated and soon will be submitted to College of Physicians and Surgeons, Pakistan for approval. The Urology Department of the Tabba Kidney Institute had also a very modest beginning in 2012. Initially there was only one Junior Consultant. There was only a single operating room and that too with very limited facilities for open surgery and a few endoscopic procedures. Support services of Radiology and Laboratory were available but the anesthesia service was also limited.
However even with the limited facilities, quality care was ensured and efforts were directed to providing continuous improvement.
With the efforts of our CEO and his support in form of funds, we were able to expand. In 2016, the urology department was able to move to its present location on the third floor where a complete unit with provision of up to 30 inpatient beds is made. At about the same time, our present operating suite with three operating rooms and a recovery area along with surgeons and technicians rooms are opened. A C-arm image intensifier and other endoscopic equipments are also added to the department.
Now the department of urology has one full time and two part-time Urologists. A female urologist/urogyne-cologist is also available who offers the latest surgical technique of TVT [mid-urethral sling] for female stress urinary incontinence.
Tabba Kidney Institute is now an ISO certified 100 bed renal care hospital. It provides comprehensive Nephro-urological and allied medical treatment under one roof on a not for profit basis.
