Kaybees was started by three brothers, Zafar Ahmed Kalia, Feroz Ahmed Kalia and Masood Ahmed Kalia in 1979 . It all started when in 1976 their family lost all it had when a flood struck and their poultry farm and stationary factory, both of which got completely wiped out. Due to such a huge loss, the family got back to square one and had to struggle for even the most basic necessities of life like food and shelter. They had to sell their house to bear their expenses and were deprived of everything that they had previously. Time went on and the three brothers realized that they had to do something about the situation. In 1979 they heard of a place which was available on rent, a small restaurant in a shabby condition going in losses but the brothers decided to take on the challenge and took the opportunity. The task was not easy, with lack of financial capability and zero knowledge about the food business, Kaybees could have very well failed in the initial days. It was due to the sheer determination and struggle of these three people that Kaybees thrived and went on to become the success that it is now. All the work from dealing with sewage lines to getting stock for the restaurant was done by the owners themselves due to the lack of resources. There were days when the family did not have enough money for breakfast but there was no giving up. Kaybees slowly and gradually established itself, a major breakthrough came when the all famous ice cream was introduced by Kaybees and became an instant hit throughout the city. Time passed by and the business grew, the owners were able to now buy the land that they previously had on rent and even expanded by taking the neighboring shops under their own roof . Years passed and new floors were opened, the same small restaurant that was rented in 1979 now stands tall as 3 story building with 4 dining halls, a rooftop area and a deck attached to it. Kaybees has also expanded throughout the city with 4 branches in different areas of Karachi and looks to build on the legacy by establishing a national and international presence.
